    • @yorkshirefarming
      @yorkshirefarming 9 днів тому

      Hi Adrian, I missed him setting off with the tractor and trailer!! As far as I understand is he did the correct thing and just let the tractor run out down the hill. The best way is just to concentrate on keeping it straight and let it run out. That would be, No brakes, No clutch pressed. (In other words, feet off) To touch brakes may cause a sliding of the trailer and tractor. It then may have over turned as it went sideways. If there was no room to run out (a wall, a cliff etc.) then things are different. All was well and he has learned from the experience. Thank Your for your Question. Richard.

    It's the farmers who make a mess of the land with their pesticides , inorganic fertilizers , and the loss of biodiversity with their sprays. The moles were there before the farmer's

    • @yorkshirefarming
      @yorkshirefarming 25 днів тому

      The comment raises important concerns about the environmental impact of modern farming practices, particularly the use of pesticides, non-organic fertilizers, and sprays, as well as the resulting loss of biodiversity. While it's true that these practices have significant ecological consequences, it's also crucial to consider the complexities and pressures faced by contemporary agriculture. ### Modern Farming Practices and Environmental Impact 1. **Pesticides and Non-Organic Fertilizers**: - **Pesticides**: These are used to protect crops from pests and diseases, ensuring high yields and reducing crop loss. However, their overuse can lead to soil degradation, water contamination, and harm to non-target species, including beneficial insects and wildlife. - **Non-organic Fertilizers**: These are applied to enhance crop growth by supplying essential nutrients. Nevertheless, they can contribute to soil acidification, water pollution through runoff, and disruption of natural nutrient cycles. 2. **Loss of Biodiversity**: - The use of chemical sprays and monoculture practices (growing a single crop over a large area) can significantly reduce biodiversity. Diverse ecosystems are replaced by single-species fields, diminishing habitats for various flora and fauna, including moles. ### Balancing Consumer Demand and Sustainable Practices Farmers are often caught in a difficult position. They must produce enough food to meet the demands of a growing population while keeping costs low for consumers. Here are some ways modern agriculture is attempting to find a balance: 1. **Integrated Pest Management (IPM)**: - IPM combines biological, cultural, mechanical, and chemical practices to control pests in an environmentally sustainable way. It reduces reliance on chemical pesticides, promoting the use of natural predators and crop rotation to manage pest populations. 2. **Precision Agriculture**: - This technology-driven approach uses data analysis, GPS, and remote sensing to optimize field-level management regarding crop farming. It ensures that inputs like water, fertilizers, and pesticides are used efficiently and only where needed, minimizing environmental impact. 3. **Organic and Regenerative Farming**: - These farming methods emphasize soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance. Organic farming avoids synthetic chemicals, relying on natural processes and materials. Regenerative farming focuses on restoring soil health, improving water cycles, and increasing biodiversity. 4. **Agroforestry and Polyculture**: - These practices involve integrating trees and shrubs into crop and livestock systems (agroforestry) and growing multiple crop species together (polyculture). They enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and create more resilient ecosystems. 5. **Government Policies and Incentives**: - Many governments are providing subsidies and incentives for farmers to adopt more sustainable practices. These policies encourage the transition towards methods that protect the environment while maintaining productivity. ### Consumer Role in Sustainable Agriculture Consumers also play a crucial role in this balance. By supporting sustainable and organic products, even if they are slightly more expensive, consumers can drive demand for environmentally friendly farming practices. Additionally, reducing food waste and opting for seasonal, locally-sourced produce can further support sustainable agriculture. ### Conclusion While it's true that traditional farming practices have contributed to environmental degradation, modern agriculture is evolving to address these issues. Through innovative practices and technologies, farmers are working to minimize their environmental footprint while still meeting the demand for affordable food. However, achieving a sustainable food system requires collaboration between farmers, consumers, and policymakers to support and implement eco-friendly agricultural practices. --- This detailed response highlights the challenges and efforts in modern farming to find a balance between environmental sustainability and consumer demands for affordable food.

    • @yorkshirefarming
      @yorkshirefarming Місяць тому

      Hi Good question. We don’t have a forage wagon and the only way to pick the grass up would be with a round bailing and feed directly to cows. The best way with zero grazing is to get the grass to the cows as fresh as possible and without damaging the grass. If the grass leaves are damaged ( chopped or crimped) it doesn’t have the same appeal to the cows. It will also wilt and dry quicker which reduces appetite. There is also not letting the grass fall to the ground where it can pick up soil. Silage making is a different process for grass as it is pickling it and the breakdown of the grass structure make it more palatable preserving the quality. Thanks for your question. Thanks for watching. 👍

    • @yorkshirefarming

      That is a Grate Question. The Mower can be tilted forwards and backwords as you would if its is on the 3 point linkage for slight adjustments, but the mower on the Grazer is fitted to run flat and level. From the factory you can order spaces that fit to the mower pans that will lift or lower the cutting hight. To change hight between fields would be difficult. it involves removing the pans to add or remove the spacers. Our machine has no spaces and we find it works well. Thank you for your question. Wow. That is brilliant. The problem we have is the ground is saturated and will take a few weeks to become workable. Well done on getting your cows out. 👍

    Hi guys, Id suggest looking at ms schippers foot bath mats. They would probably be a fat better alternative to what you are currently doing. I have a contact and have 4 on our robots.

      Hi there! Thank you so much for your suggestion about the MS Schippers foot bath mats. It does sound like an interesting and potentially superior alternative to our current approach. We really appreciate you bringing it to our attention, and the fact that you have a contact and firsthand experience with them on your robots adds valuable insight. We’re always keen on exploring new products and ideas that could benefit our content and the community. With that in mind, we’re considering creating a dedicated video to review the MS Schippers foot bath mats. This way, not only can we dive deep into its features and benefits, but it also allows our UA-cam community to cast their own opinions based on a comprehensive overview. We believe in giving honest and thorough reviews so that everyone can make well-informed decisions. Thanks again for your suggestion!

      @@yorkshirefarming Wonderful! Let me know if you need any details, or a contact, perhaps even a site view (im based in cumbria). I genuinely think they are a great tool to have, depending on barn design, labour saving and disease control. But that always comes for a cost, which i always have the moto Preventing is cheaper than treating.

      Thank you! Cheers! It’s not an ideal system but it does work well most of the time. As we get to the end of the winter it does get blocked up. We do have different ideas of alternative systems but we will cope with it for now thanks for your comments 👍

    oh wow that is a big problem to have do you have a separator for your slurry as seen on another channel they are on the grant system not sure if it would work on your system but might be worth the look and what a driver that is skill

    • @yorkshirefarming

      Hi Richard. We have to clean the tank out once a year. It is the straw and a badly designed underground tank that is the problem. We have looked into separation. It would not be cost affective for us on that building. The animals that are in there will all be turned out to grass and the building will be empty for 7 months of the year. Your question has got me thinking about something that may work with a separation system. The system you talk about in an other video is Tom Pemberton. His system is very good. They are struggling to get the muck out onto the fields too. We are in a similar situation. Thanks for your comments. You have got me thinking about a new idea. All the best. Richard 👍

    Hi Richard, Thanks for the video I really enjoyed it, I use tunnel traps mostly here, our ground is much heavier in Herefordshire than you. The only comment I would make about the Putange traps is I always use a small bit of wire through the loop of the trap to stop the Mole dragging the trap into the tunnel, cheers Richard..

      Thank You for your Kind Comment. I agree with you about the wire to hold the trap, that would work very well. Not mention it in the video but I sometimes put the loops together in the run and stick the flag through both to hold them.
